Health teams are bucked by awards listing

A number of health services that look after people across Hertfordshire have been recognised through national awards.

One of these, a special listening service which helps people with mental health and learning disabilities in the county, has been highly commended by the Care Programme Approach Association (CPAA).

The Peer Experience Listening project, which has been developed by the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) and involves gathering feedback from people who have had experience using mental health and learning disability services in order to improve them, has been recognised with a certificate in The CPAA Good Practice Awards.

The HPFT is also up for three further awards from different organisations for some of the other services it provides in Hertfordshire.

These include a Nursing Times award for New Care Plans devised by the trust, which allow people with learning disabilities to create their own future care plans.

These can be in whatever style and format that they choose, including easy to read sections and bright colours.

One plan has been developed in the style of a tabloid newspaper and another is a computer-based interactive plan.

A new healthcare project called the Single Point of Access contact system has been shortlisted for a national Health Service Journal (HSJ) award. The new system has seen more than 30 different telephone numbers for contacting trust services replaced by one new low cost phone number.

The HSJ has also shortlisted another HPFT team for an award for the trust’s Host Families project, which supports people recovering from periods of mental illness.

This involves families providing a welcoming environment for patients to recover in for about three weeks, as an alternative to staying in an inpatient unit.
