You may still be full after a week of Christmas feasting, but those who had a real fir tree in their homes will still want to visit the chip shop this month.

Living Christmas trees can be given a new lease of life by being recycled for garden chippings at Dacorum Borough Council’s free tree recycling sites on Sunday, January 11.

On this day trees can be brought to one of the three Christmas tree recycling points in the borough, where they will be chipped and composted.

Those who would like their chippings to use in their garden, as a weed preventative, only need bring a bag to take them home in.

The unconventional ‘chip shops’ will be open at Hemel Hempstead’s Cupid Green Depot off Redbourn Road and Berkhamsted’s Water Lane car park behind Tesco from 9.30am to 4pm.

In Tring, chipping takes place at the town’s garden centre on Bulbourne Road from 10.30am until 4pm, and chippings will be available for collection from the site the following day between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

For residents of Tring or Berkhamsted, 1st Tring Scouts and 1st Berkhamsted Scout Groups are offering to collect trees from homes and take them to the tree chipping sites, for a donation.

For a collection from Berkhamsted – not including Northchurch or surrounding villages – visit: www.1stberkhamsted.org.uk.

For collection from Tring or Aldbury, email tringscoutsxmastrees@hotmail.com.

Those who are unable to make this date can take their trees to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Eastman Way in Hemel Hempstead or to Northbridge Road in Berkhamsted. Leaving trees at any other recycling sites will be treated as fly-tipping.

Christmas cards and wrapping paper can now be recycled in the new blue-lidded bin, or at selected Sainsbury’s and Asda stores in the January.
