Has bowls club been saved?

VICTORY: A politician claims to have saved a bowls club that was at risk of closure.

The Gazette reported in October that Little Gaddesden Bowls and Croquet Club needed £4,500 to fix a leak in its Church Road bowls pavilion.

If it could not find the cash by autumn 2013 it would have to close, said its chairman Tommy Tucker.

Now David Lloyd, who represented Bridgewater on Herts County Council, says his donation of £2,100 from his locality budget has helped save the club.

He said: “It has an excellent green and provides older members of the community with a vital source of physical and social activity. I look forward to seeing the club prosper.”

Mr Tucker was on holiday and unavailable for comment.
