Growing pride as villagers show off garden skills

HOME-made and home-grown goodies were on display at a village horticultural show.

Among the prize winners at the event in Victory Hall, Station Road, Long Marston, was Jean Bygate who was presented with the Thomas Chapman award for outstanding contribution to the village.

She has been lending a hand with community events for more than 20 years and has been heavily involved in the Long Marston and Puttenham Horticultural Society, which organised Saturday’s show.

Events manager Oliver Matthews said: “She has always been very willing and still is.”

Overall winners on the day with the most points were Jane Morrell, who was presented the Hales Trophy, and Terry Clay, who bagged the Alan Taylor Cup.
