Highways contractor Ringway dealt with more than 70 emergency call outs to fallen tress when stormy weather hit on Saturday.
The extent of the damage meant that gritter drivers from Herts Highways joined the clean up effort following their salting runs to clear the roads as soon as possible.
County councillor Terry Douris, who oversees highways, said: “Saturday’s dramatic weather conditions proved a real challenge and I would like to thank the highways teams and emergency services who worked so hard to keep the roads open, especially all the crews who had already been out on salting runs.
“At some of the sites we attended we cleared debris from the road and stacked it to one side. We will be returning as soon as we can to clear up. However, there may be some debris that we don’t know about. If you see any that is hazardous, please report it to us.”
