ITEMS left by the graves at a village burial ground could be removed as they do not comply with council regulations.
There are nine graves in the Hempstead Lane burial ground that do not follow the rules of Nettleden with Potten End Parish Council, said Stephanie Bramham.
At a meeting on Thursday, she said: “Vases and all sorts of paraphernalia are appearing.
“Some people do not realise that earthenware vase is cracked or their belongings are going rusty.”
‘Removal of items from graves’ was listed as an item for discussion on the meeting’s agenda.
But Mrs Bramham said she would not like to do this without consultation with the families who are considered to be not currently observing the rules.
Council chairman Simon Barnard later said: “We do not want to say, ‘Oi, You can’t do that.’
“We have to be very sensitive, but we have to do it.”
