Golden week for Midas performers
Dance and drama fans had a golden week preparing a performance with the National Youth Ballet (NYB).
Children joined young dancers on an outreach project to put together a performance based on the story of King Midas, who turned everything to gold.
Around 25 dance enthusiasts aged from seven to 14 years old turned up for the course at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts held from Monday to Friday last week.
Choreographer and coodinator David Pugh said: "As always with kids, they found the most exciting part was the first time they tried on their costumes.
"It is always that they try on the frock and they are happy."
Each performer was given a white toga to wear by the NYB's costume department.
Mr Pugh said: "From the smallest to the biggest, they all looked identical so they all felt part of the team - like a Greek tribe."
A Mad Hatter's picnic was also held in the school grounds, when children were joined by stars of the NYB's production of Wayne Sleep's Wonderland – Scenes from Alice.
The show will be performed from tomorrow (August 26) to Friday at Kent's E M Forster Theatre and on September 5 at the London Palladium.
The week was also run alongside NYB's new ballet Rainbow Bear, based on a book by Michael Morpurgo and children were able to have a look behind the scenes at rehearsals for the production.
