Hemel Hempstead’s Adeyfield Free Church will mark its 60th birthday this weekend with a programme of celebration which includes a family fun day and a special Sunday morning service.

The church building was founded in 1953, the same year as the Queen’s coronation. 60 years later and the Leverstock Green Road church is inviting the local community to get involved with events to mark the milestone.

From 11am to 3pm on Saturday the church is hosting a family fun day complete with a bouncy castle, stalls, quiz, live music and a café bistro.

At 10am on Sunday the church will be holding a special morning service of thanksgiving for the past 60 years and look to the future of the church as it plans to move from its current site to new premises on the Maylands Industrial Estate.

Many past members of the church will be travelling the length and breadth of the country to attend.

The Rev Pete Blackband said: “Adeyfield Free Church has been truly blessed over the past 60 years.

“From the founding of our church back in the 1950s through to the present day, God has always been good, and it is very exciting to be able to celebrate this together with the local community.

“There are also so many exciting days ahead for the church as we seek to move premises and see growth in our activities including our carer and toddler groups, Fingerprints pre-school, work with teenagers and regular services at local elderly homes.

“Everyone is welcome to our celebrations, and we look forward to enjoying a wonderful weekend.”
