GREEN fingered allotment users will be planting free trees to create a wildlife friendly hedge around their new Grovehill site.
The Hemel Hempstead Society for Allotment and Leisure Gardeners has been given the trees by the Woodland Trust.
It is part of the trust’s national Jubilee Woods project, which aims to plant six million trees by the end of 2012 in celebration of the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
The allotment group has been given 420 trees, which will be planted this weekend by plot holders along with their family and friends.
The site off Squires Ride is made up of 42 plots and is the result of threes years of campaigning for a new gardening base to help drive down allotment waiting lists.
