Flats plan prompts heritage concerns
Rose & Crown Tring
Planning committee members are concerned that plans to redevelop a town centre hotel into flats will strip the town of a much-needed amenity without regard to its historic importance.
Tring town councillors decided to reject an application to convert the Rose and Crown hotel into a restaurant and 36 flats in a bid to keep hotel facilities in the town – but Dacorum Borough Council is the planning authority.
At the planning meeting on Monday, local history expert Tim Amsden was anxious to persuade members to oppose the application and told them he was looking into whether the building could be listed.
He said: “The Rose and Crown is of immense historical importance as there has been a hotel on the site since the 16th century.”

However, the Rose and Crown was always noted on the one hand for its splendid function facilities as well as the lovely pub area which served great lunches. These two aspects along with the attractive facade and the sign at the front should be an essential part of any new development for the Rose and Crown.
