CLEAN-UP: Parish councillors say they are prepared to take pond preservation, literally, into their own hands if no other solution is found.
At a meeting of Potten End Parish Council on Thursday, chairman Simon Barnard said weeds had taken over the village pond and that ‘they will wade into the pond to cut back the willows and clean out the water themselves if they have to’.
He added: “Within 20 years, a pond that’s not looked after will become woodland and disappear completely.
“The water level is extremely low.”
Refilling with a fire hose was considered, but rejected as this water could contain chemicals.
