Emergency teams called to 23,000 falls

HEALTH chiefs are raising awareness of the dangers of falls in a bid to cut the thousands admitted to hospital each year.

Last year 23,000 calls were made to 999 following falls in Herts, with 5,000 people admitted to hospital and 1,000 suffering a broken hip.

In National Falls Week NHS Hertfordshire recommends older people stay active, eat a balanced diet, get their eyes tested, make sure shoes and slippers fit properly and talk to their GP about any concerns.
