THESE talented teenagers put in tip top performances in a public speaking competition that “bowled over” spectators.

They were taking part in the ‘Youth Speaks’ competition by the Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne, which attracted a record 18 teams of three this year.

Rotary spokesman Geoff Budd said: “The youth spoke, and Rotarians were amazed.

“Rotarians, parents were bowled over by the standards achieved. The young participants spoke with passion, authority and not a little humour on a diversity of subjects.”

These included Is the NHS spending in the right places?, The End of the World is Nigh!, The Truth Will Set You Free and We Are All Suckers.

Pupils from Ashlyns School, Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and Tring School took part.

But the winners were Berkhamsted School (inset) in the upper category and five teams from Bridgewater School in the intermediate level (main photo).

Winners will compete in the Rotary District semi-finals this month, and could eventually compete nationally.
