Pupils put their politicians in the spotlight

POLITICIANS were quizzed by pupils in a Question Time-style event at Tring School.

South West Herts Conservative MP David Gauke, Labour borough councillor Keith White and Liberal Democrat county councillor Nick Hollinghurst were filmed at the school.

Sixth form head girl Jenni Cannon, who organised the debate for Year 8 pupils, said: “Hopefully some of them will take away how important politics is.”

The panel responded to questions about tuition fees, charity budget cuts, lowering the voting age, housing and schools and underage drinking.

Jenni hopes the debate will become a regular event to broaden awareness of politics for pupils below the voting age and who they can contact about issues that affect them.

She studies maths, English, chemistry, history and an extended project in psychology, and hopes to study maths and English at university with a view to going into politics.
