pensions: South West Herts MP David Gauke met with teachers at Berkhamsted School to discuss controversial government changes to teacher pensions.

At last Thursday’s meeting, organised by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, treasury minister Mr Gauke defended the changes, which will mean increased contributions and a higher retirement age.

“Longer life expectancy means that there is an additional cost to pension provision and we need to strike the right balance between the contribution of the taxpayer and the employee,” he said.
