The education system in Berkhamsted will be switched from three-tier to two-tier, Herts County Council agreed this afternoon (Monday).
That means primary and secondary schools will serve the area – rather than the lower, middle and upper schools system in place at the moment – from as early as September next year.
The public voted overwhelmingly in favour of the change in a public consultation in February – with 81 per cent of 833 people who responded backing it.
Just 15 per cent of respondents said the education system should remain three-tier.
In a more recent public consultation in the six weeks from July 18, just one objection to the plans was received by Herts County Council.
