Drunken game led to death

A drunken game of jumping out of a first floor window led to the death of a father, an inquest heard.

Christopher Willis, who was receiving treatment for alcoholism, died days after damaging his kidney.

An inquest into his death heard how he was drinking at pal David

Wheeler's flat on February 25 this year when they decided to take turns jumping from the window.

On the second jump Mr Willis, father to a six-year-old daughter, landed awkwardly on his side.

It was not until the following evening that the 47 year old realised something was wrong. He had pain in his kidneys and was dizzy causing him to fall over.

Mr Willis was taken to Hemel Hempstead Hospital by ambulance where surgeons had to remove his damaged kidney.

But because he suffered from liver disease his blood failed to clot properly.

He was kept in the intensive care unit but died on March 5.

At the inquest hearing on Wednesday, June 24, Mr Thomas gave a verdict of accidental death caused by multi-organ failure due to a lacerated kidney and a secondary cause of liver disease.
