An unusual fundraiser held by disability charity ReachOut Plus helped raise £1,300 towards forthcoming projects.

But community fundraising manager Sophie Spiegler said the charity still needs more support to help keep it afloat.

She said: “The Float Our Boat event went really well.

“Our shopping list of vital items like ropes and hoists seemed to drum up a lot of interest, and we got some fantastic support.

“However, financially, the charity still needs help because at the moment we are unable to deliver what we want to this year.”

ReachOut’s latest venture took place in Shendish Manor during the Best Business Expo on Saturday.

Volunteers donned boating gear and spent the day inside an inflatable dinghy, asking passers-by to donate against a list of items needed by the charity’s canal boats, which are used to provide experience days for those with disabilities.

More funds will help the charity, based in Nash Mills, to run its Enable project, providing boat trips for up to 100 young people.
