BIRDS won’t have to worry about running out of food in the cold weather.

The children of Victoria C of E First School in Prince Edward Street, Berkhamsted, have made eco-friendly tables for them from recycled water bottles.

The Tuesday event was to mark the school’s bird-watching week.

Rebecca Lynn, its teaching assistant for Years 2 and 3, said: “The children are very excited about this week. They love nature and being outdoors.

“Events like this help them learn about the world around them – they have such a fascination about learning things at that age, and this is part of that.”

The youngsters are also recording all the different breeds of bird they can spot from the school playground this week.

They have made bird food cake to hang from trees in the playground and are working on their own little bird story book.
