THE POLICE are on the hunt for local community safety champions to be nominated for a prize.

Herts Police has launched its Safer Neighbourhood Awards 2011.

Authority chairman Stuart Nagler said: “The authority’s Safer Neighbourhood Awards gives us the opportunity to say a public thank you to the exceptional people who help make Hertfordshire one of the safest counties in the country.

“All too often we hear bad news stories and all the good work done by the public and our officers can go unnoticed.

“These annual awards recognise the tremendous level of commitment and dedication of the people who live and work in our county and we want everyone to think about the people who have made a difference to their communities and put their name forward for one of our awards.

“Let’s really celebrate all the good there is in Hertfordshire.”

There are four award categories for members of the public and officers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

They are the Community Safety Citizen’s Award, the Neighbourhood Policing Team of the Year, Neighbourhood Police Officer of the Year and Police Community Support Officer of the Year.

Nomination forms and awards criteria are available at www.hertspa.org. Closing date March 4, 2011.
