Could town be on course to have its first music festival?

THE first music festival of its kind could be launched this year if its organisers can find the backing they need to underwrite its costs.

The one-day event would be held at Berkhamsted Cricket Club on Saturday, September 15. Profits would go to charities.

Organisers say the event will have a main stage, acoustic, comedy and beer tents, children’s entertainment and catering.

They hope to sell 3,200 tickets, but say the event could cost £24,000 and have written to Berkhamsted Town Council to ask it to underwrite their costs.

Cricket club manager Greg Selfe said: “A community event such as this in Berkhamsted is long overdue. Tring and Boxmoor both host concerts to great success; there is no reason why we cannot achieve the same.”

At a meeting on Monday, councillors said they would need more information before committing to underwrting its cost.
