Cooling fire call to lorry on M1

editorial image

Firefighters were called out to cool a lorry’s brakes after they reached temperatures of up to 300 degrees Celsius.

At first it was thought that the vehicle - on the M1 southbound hard shoulder between Junctions 7 and 6A - was on fire so two crews from Hemel Hempstead were sent to the scene at around 6.30pm on Monday.

The Red Watch firefighters poured cold water on to the brakes to cool them. It is thought that the brakes had got stuck together causing them to rub and heat up.
