Two teachers have resigned from their positions in Tring School’s music department after being suspended for several weeks.

Head of music Alison Gent and subject leader Emma Wood were suspended from teaching in March and it has been confirmed this week that they have officially left the school.

Another teacher from the same department, Andrew Dimond, has also handed in his notice and will not be returning to the school following a period of illness.

In a letter to parents dated April 23, head teacher Sue Collings said she knew many would be ‘saddened’ by the news, but the school was now on the hunt for new staff members to fill the vacant positions.

Ms Collings said adverts had been placed in newspapers and on the relevant websites and that she hoped they would attract the right candidates. The letter promised to keep parents informed of any developments.

Also mentioned were the leadership team, namely Claire Ramsden and Sally Ambrose, for securing, monitoring and resourcing the visiting staff in the music department to ensure it continued to run.

Others were thanked for the support in taking on the mantle of the school’s extensive extra curricular music programme in the form of after-school and lunchtime clubs.

The letter was concluded with reference to the department’s cancelled trip to Salzburg, which was due to take place in October. It confirmed that those who had already paid a deposit would be refunded in due course.

Ms Collings said: “Two music teachers have recently resigned from their positions in the school. We are in the process of recruiting new music staff and are looking forward to securing high quality practitioners in the near future.

“Tring School is renowned for producing high quality musical performances from our wonderful students, and we look forward to the new and exciting times ahead.”
