Work to transform a care home’s dated coffee shop into an old-fashioned sweet seller’s has been completed.

Mountbatten Lodge in Old Crabtree Lane has seen its Best Friends Cafe completely renovated thanks to funding from Quantum Care and the niece and nephew of a former resident, Winnifred Harris, who was known as Peggy. T

he makeover was started in November while Lodge staff raised funds locally for items such as a till, weighing scales and jars to dress the area, now called Auntie Peg’s Shop. P

eggy’s relatives Jean and Robbie Harris cut the ribbon at its official opening on Thursday.
