Sunnyside Rural Trust's Hemel Food Garden

A horticultural masterclass, cheese-tasting and bespoke hanging baskets are just some of the springtime delights on offer at Sunnyside Rural Trust’s open day this Saturday.

The event at their Hemel Food Garden site off Two Waters Road – which recently fell victim to an overnight burglary – will feature the presentation of certificates to trainees with learning difficulties who have recently completed the John Muir conservation award.

Charity patron, Arabella Stuart-Smith will be congratulating the trainees on the awards, which saw some trainees creating an indoor pond.

A masterclass at noon by horticulturist Sarah Barker will provide tips on growing your own vegetables, while the shop will be selling Sunnyside and other local produce as well as a range of plants, vegetable plugs and flowering spring bulbs – perfect presents Mother’s Day.

There is also the opportunity to order a hanging basket which the charity will make up and keep until it is ready to go outside.

For cheese lovers there will be Wobbly Bottom cheese tasting on the day as well as coffee and cake available to buy.
