A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.

HMP THE MOUNT

Special volunteers are needed to help out in the visitor centre at HMP The Mount in Bovingdon.

Visitors often have long and difficult journeys and children especially can be tired and upset by the time they reach their destination.

Centre volunteers offer a friendly face, a cup of tea, a bite to eat and a listening ear to visitors before they go over to the prison.

The centre is open on Friday afternoons and has sessions both morning and afternoon at weekends.

You would need to be over 21, have good social skills and an interest in people of all ages and backgrounds.

Basic food hygiene training is available and travel expenses offered.

The recruitment process can take a long time so volunteers are asked for at least a one year commitment.

Barnardos

If you enjoy public speaking and are passionate about helping the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in the UK today, Barnardos could have the ideal role for you.

The role involves inspiring individuals, community groups, companies and schools to raise funds for this good cause.

The right volunteer will have the ability to work independently, build and maintain a wide network of supporters and travel where necessary.

Age UK Charity Shop

Age UK urgently need a new volunteer general assistant to join the friendly team at its busy shop in Bridge Street, Hemel Hempstead.

Tasks include helping to sort donations, price books, steam garments and till work as well as welcoming customers and making sure that the shop is clean and tidy.

The lower age limit is 16 and expenses are offered.
