A Hemel Hempstead family in a flap after six of their beloved cockatiels went missing are stunned to have had three of the birds rescued – one from as far away as Berkhamsted.
The Pound family from Warners End were reunited with two of their pets when they were handed in to Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre on Midland Road soon after their escape. Now a third has been discovered near Bridgewater School in Berkhamsted’s Bridle Way – almost a month later.
Owner and principal vet at St John’s Veterinary Surgery, who took in the chatty bird and named him Raymond, said: “He was a lovely, friendly cockatiel and a delight to have in the surgery, but his owners were absolutely to delighted to have him back. Cockatiels are resilient birds and we have had mild weather recently, so I am not surprised he could survive on his own this long.”
