A volunteer organisation is celebrating a milestone sum of money raised in its charity bookshop.

The Hemel Hempstead Lions Club’s second-hand bookshop, based in the Marlowes Shopping Centre, has reached £100,000 in takings to fund its many ventures.

Club president Terry Allen said: “All the money has been raised through the bookshop and other little things that we do. It is a fantastic achievement. The public have supported us so well – we’ve been here 21/2 years and not often had a stage where we don’t have enough books.”

The club also donated £300 to the chosen charity of its Marlowes home, Sunnyside Rural Trust.
