A mum to two boys with the rare blood disorder haemophilia says she is disgusted a popular family food firm failed to honour a gift certificate it offered as a charity raffle prize.

Emma Hart of Chaulden is fundraising for a trek across Iceland in aid of the Haemophilia Society, to fund research into the condition affecting her young sons Samuel and Oliver.

A £30 voucher won by her friend as a raffle prize was refused by staff at the Hemel Hempstead branch of Harvester when she attempted to redeem it, despite there being no expiration date.

Emma said: “I am absolutely disgusted they could give me a raffle prize and then refuse to honour it. All proceeds are going to charity and it has now tarnished my name as a fundraiser.”

A Harvester spokesman said: “There does seem to have been some genuine confusion in accepting the gift certificate and it was never our intention to cause any upset to the guest or the charity. By way of apology we would like to offer the guest an additional £30 gift voucher to enjoy a return visit and Emma a further £30 voucher so she can use this to support her ongoing fundraising.”

The firm also confirmed with Emma it would be providing extra training for the member of staff involved in the dispute.
