A project to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War is holding a fun day in Letchworth on Saturday.
Herts At War is launching its ‘roll of honour’ system on its website with the free event, from 12 noon to 6pm, at the Arcade in Leys Avenue.
The day will feature a military ancestry roadshow where experts can unlock secrets to old photographs and family heirlooms, object-handling sessions and a collectors market, along with a buffet and much more.
Herts At War project co-ordinator Dan Hill said: “The aim of the roll of honour project is to uncover the hidden stories behind the 21,000 names that appear on the Hertfordshire war memorials throughout the county.
“In each area of the county we have people working to achieve that goal, but being such a huge and important task, it is important we try and get as many people involved as possible.
“We hope that this launch event will provide a good forum and opportunity for people to come along and find out about what we are doing and how it affects their area, as well as how they can spread the message for Herts At War.”
