Closed school site could become base for excluded teens

editorial image

Plans to move a centre for troublesome teens to a closed primary school site have been put out to public consultation.

Education chiefs want to transform Barncroft School in Grovehill into a hub for teenagers who have been excluded from mainstream school or are at risk of this happening.

Called the Dacorum Extended Education Support Centre, it is currently based at West Herts College in Hemel Hempstead.

Barncroft School, in Washington Avenue, was one of three Hemel Hempstead Primary schools that were closed in 2007 by Herts County Council due to falling pupil numbers.

The public consultation runs until November 2 and, as part of this, a drop-in session will be held at Grovehill Community Centre in Henry Wells Square on Monday, October 22 from 6pm to 8pm.
