The festive season has kicked off in Berkhamsted with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
Santa Claus rode by on his sleigh as hordes of excited children thronged the High Street during yesterday’s Festival of Light celebration.
There was also an Elves Posting House in Berkhamsted Civic Centre, where children could send letters to Santa via his wife Mrs Claus and her elves.
The adults had the chance to buy festive treats including mulled wine from Frithsden Vineyard from market stalls at the event.
Charity retailer Number Twenty in the town’s Lower Kings Road was announced as the winner of this year’s best dressed shop window contest.
Member of the Berkhamsted Citizens Association (BCA) Susan Johnson said: “Its stunning double-fronted windows in silver, gold and pink were beautiful by day and night.”
Certificates of commendation went to the shops Peter John, Boltons, British Red Cross and Airs & Graces, all in the High Street.
The BCA has organised the competition for the last 16 years.
