A CASH grant of more than £8,000 has been awarded to a community centre towards a brand new kitchen.
The Warners End Neighbourhood Association applied for a grant of £8,538 to revamp a dated 40-year-old kitchen at the Warners End Community Centre in Northridge Way, Hemel Hempstead.
The association, which runs the centre, applied for the money from the Big Lottery Fund.
Centre manager Jacqui Wakefield said: “The kitchen is the first of many things we plan to carry out here at the centre.
“The lottery money will provide half the amount needed for a new kitchen and floor.
“The new kitchen has been particularly designed with the disabled and children in mind.
“One of the two island surfaces will be at a lower level so it is accessible to them.”
The community centre is used by groups and people of all ages, from newly born babies being weighed at the centre, to corporate events, bingo, and Little Acorns pre-school.
Jacqui added: “At a later date we’d like to apply for further funding to carry out more work at the centre including new toilets.”
