Olympic park-and-ride plans for Redbourn’s Hertfordshire showground given green light
PLANS to create an Olympic car park on a county showground were approved by councillors last night.
Councillors from St Albans District Council agreed with the plans for 2,754 car park spaces on Herts County Showground from July 27 to August 13 this year.
There will also be three coach loading bays and space for 50 additional coaches to wait before loading.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 11:41 PMThey might be advertising this as a green games for london, but with schemes like this the outer communities pay with all the extra hassle and pollution in and around our town. I guess the shuttles will be able to use a 2012 lane on the M1 creating more congestion for three weeks. I am all for people taking an interest in the games, but at what cost overall, as a traveller that has to use a car, as public transport can't take my 50-100kgs of tools every day, to work to get into London via the M1 during this period will be ridiculous. Why can't Londoners deal with this problem, why will I have to pay for this in council tax payments. It's not a UK games but a London games Saying this I wish team GB every success.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 01:52 PMFor some people "throwing stick, having a paddle and playing in the sandpit" it's a lifetime of hard work, culminating in appearing at the games. It's the pinnacle of sporting events, creating chances for thousands of athletes all over the world, and inspiring countless others to take up soprts. Fine you don't have an interest in it, but don't mock it. I'm sure you wouldn't say it to the face of an international athlete, it's just that you're cosy behind your screen. It's good to see council's from the home counties offering services like this. Otherwise you'd have thousands of cars heading into London everyday for the entire Olympics, causing untold amounts of congestion.

Bet I can guess which one it will be. And outofhemel, I have no interest in the Olympics whatsoever, I will be at work whilst they are throwing their sticks, having a paddle and playing in the sandpit...
