‘It is time to keep our trade local’

A Maylands business has launched a campaign to fight back against the closure of small shops.
Just Insurance, at Grovelands Business Centre, Boundary Way, wants to get firms talking and doing business in the local economy.
Launching the Keep Trade Local campaign, Just Insurance managing director Rob Pollard said: “The purpose of this campaign is to urge customers to continue to support their local independent shops and tradesmen which are the heartbeat of the community.
“The message is simple – if we don’t use local businesses we will lose them. We are one of those local firms and, by working together we can turn this alarming trend around.”
Mike Cherry, national policy chair for the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “The FSB fully supports Just Insurance with their ‘Keep Trade Local’ campaign.”
Research by the British Retail Consortium has revealed nationally thousands of small independent shops have been closing at an alarming rate with more than one in 10 shops empty. The Just Insurance campaign might be called one of enlightened self-interest as the company’s own data shows more than eight out of 10 of its commercial clients trade in or within a commutable distance of Hemel Hempstead
