Facebook takes a trip down memory lane
MORE than 1,100 people have signed up to a new Facebook group devoted to memories of Hemel Hempstead.
The group, called Hemel Hempstead Remembered, was started up just weeks ago but hundreds have flocked there to reminisce and share pictures of the town.
Already more than 620 snaps have been posted along with histories of the Box Moor Trust, John Dickinson and the Grand Union Canal.
Among the pictures are shots of the former paddling pool in Gadebridge Park, St Paul’s Hospital in Highfield and the Electric Theatre in Albion Hill.
People have also posted personal histories while discussions have been sparked by memories of old shops, Churchill swimming pool and carnival processions.
The site proclaims: “Here is a place where you can post your old pictures of Hemel Hempstead and hopefully remember it fondly.
“Browse and hopefully it will bring back some fond memories of your past.”
Group member Carol Goodman said: “It’s full of articles and pictures where people share their stories of Hemel from old to new and also people who have since moved away have now met again after years.
“It’s becoming a big hit after it was only opened by someone as a laugh with his mates.
“Over 200 members have joined today alone. We’d like to see more join and share their photos.”
In one post Paula Thomas writes: “OK, just had a reminiscing moment or two with hubby, remembering some more shops – Beaties toy shop, old Tescos in town with the food hall downstairs.”

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 07:36 AMI am also on Facebook as a Timeline prsentation page firstly then the statuswall next page.....as well as keeping in touch with family I also have met and made some wonderful friends from around the British Isles and Ireland....what a wonderful media we live in nowadays and myself reaching a good age and being so healthy and on top of things I have much to be blessed with....maybe startiing out in the Hemel Hempstead district has something to do to it......
