Battle goes on against HS2

Rail: A fundraising initiative is being launched to help fight plans for a highly controversial high speed rail link.

The Chilterns Countryside Group (CCG) is raising funds as part of a drive by local groups to finance the cost of legal action against the Government’s decision to build the high speed rail line HS2.

The group’s chairman Sue Yeomans, who lives in Tring, said: “Our commitment to opposing HS2 is unwavering and as one of the many groups fighting the scheme we want to play a part in fundraising.

“Many of our members have considerable experience on issues relevant to the HS2 decision and we will be bringing this experience to the legal team.

“Before we can do this, however, we have to secure the necessary funding and the CCG is looking to make a contribution of at least £15,000 in the next few weeks.”

The group is emphasising the impact that works taking place at Euston Station will have on commuters for the best part of a decade.

By highlighting the scale of the works it is hoped that more people will get involved beyond those directly affected by the physical route itself.

Sue added: “We would be very grateful for any donations or pledges to help mount the legal challenge against HS2.”

Think, how much money was raised to fight the changes to Hemel Hospital and how much difference that made. Where did all those raised funds go to? Well-paid Lawers? If you want to give your money to a good cause, then give it a good charity instead of fighting aginst progress. How many people fought against the building of the M1 or the M40? I don't remember any! If a new railway had been built instead of say the M40, it could have accommodated at least EIGHT railway tracks (double the current West Coast Main Line) in the space the M40 has taken up and without all the space taken up by roundabouts. Or maybe we should consider digging up the M40 and make that into a new massive green park between London and Birmingham! Those nimbys on the planned route of HS2 would not want the M40 dug up I'm sure. Consider a small island country that is just 240 miles long and only 80 miles wide, should it have a high-speed railway? Well that island is Taiwan and it has had a high-speed railway for more than 5 years! Although I quite like the M40 motorway, DIG UP THE M40 and make it a green park! But don't stop HS2.

So the chairman of CCG lives in Tring.....a town with a population of 11000 with a rail link to Euston on the West Coast Main line. Some 500000 passengers a year use the station , or put another way , the entire population of Tring in 1 week. How would you manage without it???. CCG emphasises the fact about the impact and disruption at Euston caused by HS2.........but fail to mention the fact that Euston was already the subject of plans for a total redevelopment by Network Rail before HS2 was announced anyway. Oh the hypocrisy !!!!!!!!. As far as legal action goes, HS2 Ltd have in situ 3 challenge groups.......you can be sure that they have all bases covered.
