RAIDERS disguised in hoodies and balaclavas snatched cigarettes from a supermaket.

The trio forced their way into Berkhamsted’s Waitrose between midnight and 2.20am on Friday.

They broke open a padlock on the cigarette kiosk and took a large quantity of the goods inside.

As police arrived at the store in St John’s Wells Lane, officers saw a silver Vauxhall Vectra drive away at speed.

They chased the vehicle to the slip road at South Mimms on the A1 when the thieves stopped the car and made off on foot.

Despite searches by officers, the dog unit and the police helicopter, they were not found.

Two of the suspects were wearing dark clothing including hoodies and balaclavas and the other offender was wearing grey clothing.
