Coaches laid on to transport London commuters from Hemel Hempstead railway station over the May Day bank holiday weekend will reduce the facility’s car park by two-thirds over the three days.

As well as thebuses needed to take passengers in to the capital due to maintenance works on the busy London Midland line into Euston, shuttles to take tourists to Leavesden’s Warner Bros Studio Tour will also be housed in the car park.

Passengers who need to travel to the capital between May 3 and 5 were initially told a coach service between Hemel Hempstead and Edgware station would be offered.

But Transport for London upgrade works on the Northern Line in the same period will see it closed between Edgware and Camden Town, so coaches will now terminate at Stanmore, the northernmost Jubilee Line stop.

London Midland usually sees higher-than-average passenger levels over bank holiday weekends due to the influx of tourists, but the company’s Becky Glover said: “Due to the level of information regarding this closure, we expect to see fewer people travelling than in previous years.

“There will be limited parking available at Hemel Hempstead station over the May Day bank holiday weekend to allow replacement road transport to pick up and drop off passengers. We’d like to thank our passengers in advance for their patience.”

The operator advises passengers to avoid travel that weekend if possible and check londonmidland.com for updates.
