Herts Police cadets are put through their paces in a county competition

Wannabe police officers tried their hand ‘rescuing hostages’ and ‘arresting suspects’ at a fun training exercise at the weekend.

The group of 86 teenagers – all police cadets from the Herts area, including Dacorum – were also put through their paces with a fitness ‘bleep test’ at the second annual cadets competition at force headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.

Event organiser PC Ross Paybody said: “It was bigger and better than last year’s event with more cadets taking part.

“During the event the cadets had the opportunity to test their skills, meet other cadets from the county and compete in a number of activities.

“The number of cadets in Herts has increased, which meant we had even more at this year’s event and more young people getting actively involved in their community. They all showed great enthusiasm and I believe they are great role models for their peers.”

If you are interested in joining the police cadets, are aged between 13 and 18 and interested in helping your local community, contact PC Paybody by email on ross.paybody2@herts.pnn.police.uk, call 01707 355810 or click here for more information.
