RADIO listeners raised cash for a car so nurses can travel to the homes of seriously ill people.

Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care (IRGH) was one of scores of hospices to benefit from Heart FM’s Have A Heart Appeal, which raised more than £330,000 for Children’s Hospices UK.

The station’s presenters popped down to the IRGH’s Tring office on Thursday to hand over a new Mini, which the nurses will use to visit paediatric patients during the day and for night time call-outs.

IRGH director of nursing Sue Varvel said: “The donation couldn’t have come at a better time. We had been trying to source a car for our newly-formed overnight team and were struggling to find a cost-effective solution.”
