VIDEO: Cancer sufferer on life with a full-time carer

When cancer sufferer Dr Malcolm Newcomb discovered he needed full time care, a strong man all his life, he found himself to be weak and a shadow of his former self.

When he first came out of hospital two years ago he had to be fed through a tube and radio therapy knocked him for six.

Living alone in Boxmoor, his cousin Kate O'Sullivan, took on the role as his full-time carer and without her, he says, he would have died.

To mark national Carers Week, The Gazette has lifted the lid on the lives patients and their loved ones who care for them.

Everyday this week video interviews with carers and the people they look after will be loaded up on this site.

Today is the turn of Dr Newcomb.
