Man with drugs jailed for selling car twice on eBay
A man who admitted drugs offences and selling the same car to two different people was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
Robert Benvenga, 23, was linked to a car found in a car park at Leavesden Court, Abbots Langley.
When questioned by police about cocaine and cannabis found inside the vehicle he denied knowledge of them, but admitted that he had been a "custodian" of them for someone else when his fingerprints were found on the bags.
A court heard that Benvenga's family had fallen on hard times after the death of his father, causing the 23-year-old to assume the role of head of the family.
Defending, Charles Judge, said Benvenga had discovered debts that needed repaying that his family had not previously known about before his father's death.
"This situation arose when someone said to him: 'I have helped you, now you help me,'" he said.
St Albans Crown Court heard that Benvenga, of Hamilton Road, Kings Langley, had also admitted a charge of theft after selling a car twice on eBay.
Judge Andrew Bright heard that the defendant had sold the Audi A3 on eBay on Christmas Eve 2009 for 14,900.
However, the buyer returned it on several occasions claiming it was faulty.
On the final occasion it was returned, Mr Benvenga failed to return phone calls and it later emerged that he had resold the car to a woman in Bristol without returning the first buyer's money.
Last Thursday (August 26) Judge Bright sentenced him to 18 months for possession of 90.8g of cocaine with intent to supply, 12 months for possession of 237g of skunk cannabis, one month for a further charge of possession of cocaine, and six months for the theft of a car, all to run concurrently.
He said: "Those who warehouse Class A drugs are playing an important role in drug dealing. Those who agree to do this must realise that they face immediate custody if they are caught."
