A MAN will appear in court for allegedly shouting homophobic abuse at a pub landlord.

Dave Gurney, 46, of Woodlands Avenue, Berkhamsted, is due to face trial at St Albans Magistrates Court on Friday, August 31.

He has pleaded not guilty to using threatening behaviour and harassment without violence on March 20.

The landlord asked The Gazette not to name him or his pub.

Berkhamsted Sgt Peter Huffer said: “Offences of this nature, whilst unusual, are taken very seriously by the police.

“We will support victims of such abuse and we would encourage victims to always contact the police.

“We do have specialist officers trained to deal with crimes of this nature and all reports are always treated with a high standard of confidentiality and sensitivity.”
