Berkhamsted Bank Holiday fete attracts crowds despite rain

A fire stunt show was the hottest ticket at this year’s Bank Holiday Monday fete by the Berkhamsted Lions.

There was also entertainment from Julian and Pepe the clowns, Punch and Judy the puppets and dancers from the town’s Espinosa Chute Centre.

The annual event at Berkhamsted Cricket Club also featured stalls selling cuddly toys, bric-a-brac, cakes, jams and more, a bouncy castle, climbing wall and dog show.

Due to poor weather, there were fewer people at this year’s fete – which usually takes in around £6,000 for charities.

But Lions president Peter Block said, “I was extremely pleased with the day.

“It’s hard work organising an event like this and my thanks goes out to all the Lions and volunteers involved and to the numerous local companies that advertise in the programme and support us.”

All profits from the event will go to St John Ambulance, Tring’s Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, The Hospice of St Francis in Northchurch and other good causes.
