The new drama academy at Berkhamsted’s Ashlyns School was launched on Saturday by an award-winning actor.

Berkhamsted man Adrian Scarborough, most famous for his TV roles in Upstairs Downstairs and Gavin and Stacey, gave pupils advice about how the industry works.

He also told them about his own career – which has included appearances in hit films such as Les Miserables, and winning a Laurence Olivier award for his theatre work.

The day included workshops by actor Tom Colley, Trailblaze Theatre Company and theatrical agent Charlie Metcalf.

The academy will aim to give students access to professional training from experts in all areas of the performing arts industry, allowing them to create and develop their own work and tread the boards themselves.

Head of drama Tim Kittappa said there are a number of exciting projects planned for the academy this year.

He said: “This is another exciting new development at Ashlyns that is designed to give students the best possible training from the best people, to develop their skills in a safe environment and nurture some very talented young adults.”
