CROOKS who tried to set fire to a vehicle in the middle of the night are still on the loose.

They slashed the four tyres of an Audi A4 in the car park of St Mary’s First School in New Road, Northchurch.

They also damaged the driver’s side of the car during the incident between 9.30pm on Friday, March 11, and 11.30am the next day.

Then they returned at about 2.45am on Sunday, March 13, broke its back window and tried to set it on fire before a member of the public disturbed them.

Police arrested an 18-year-old from Hemel Hempstead for arson - but he returned bail on Friday, April 8. Poolice spokesman Hannah Williams said: “No further action has been taken against him.”
