Armed police swoop on robbers

Armed police swooped on three men attempting to rob a petrol station.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Finchley Flying Squad arrested the men at the Shell Garage in Breakspear Way, Hemel Hempstead, at around 10am today (Wednesday).

It's believed security guards were delivering cash to an ATM machine on the forecourt when the robbers struck, trying to grab the money.

However, they were surrounded by Flying Squad officers who had been following them.

It was part of a larger operation being carried out in London by the police service. However, further details have not been revealed.

A police spokesman said: "All three men are currently in custody at a North West London police station pending further inquiries.

"A knife and two vehicles have been recovered and are subject to forensic investigation."
