A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Community Action Dacorum needs volunteer minibus drivers and helpers for their new door to store project. This is a service that helps residents of Bovingdon and Kings Langley who are unable to use public transport to do their own shopping. It helps people stay independent and gives them a chance to socialise, too. Drivers are needed to pick up the minibus from its base in Hemel Hempstead and take residents from their homes to the supermarket in Apsley and then back home again.
Volunteer drivers should be between 21 and 70, have a full clean driving licence and will need to take a minibus assessment.
Door to store helpers escort passengers from their home to the minibus and back again, help with a bit of shopping and sometimes carry a few bags as well.
Help is needed on alternate Mondays for about four hours each time.
Home-grown charity DENS needs imaginative trustees with experience of fundraising or commercial income generation.
DENS has been providing emergency accommodation at the permanent night shelter for 10 years and has expanded to run a day centre, offer move on accommodation, take on the rent aid deposit scheme and most recently to run a food bank offering emergency food parcels to people in crisis. It also operates a furniture warehouse and charity shop from their base at Paradise in central Hemel.
As a trustee you will help to shape the future of the charity and ensure that DENS is well governed.
Trustees usually hold office for around three to four years and spend up to five hours per month on charity business.
Even if you can’t volunteer on a regular basis, you can help lots of Dacorum-based charities by taking part in Volunteer Centre Decorum’s fun packed event in the Marlowes on Saturday, June 1.
We need donations for our tombola stall, prizes for our competitions and practical help on the day.
If you can help in any way we would love to hear from you.
