Adele Pope, 21, has been nominated for a Herts Young Person of the Year award.

Despite a terrible accident that changed the course of her life, former Tring ballet student Adele Pope is determined to use her recovery to inspire other people with burns and scars.

Adele, 21, has been nominated for a University of Hertfordshire Young People of the Year Award.

Adele was a 15-year-old ballet student at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts when she suffered her first epileptic fit while taking a shower. During the attack, she knocked the tap and collapsed under scalding hot water.

Her mum Denise, who nominated her daughter for the award, said: “She never hides her scars, she is very willing to let people look and talk about it and it helps other people with scars. She is putting herself out there, on television and in magazines.”

Today, Adele, who now lives in Wheathampstead, is an ambassador for the Katie Piper Foundation, which aims to make life easier for those with burns and scars. It was set up by Katie after she was the victim of a horrific acid attack.

Any young person aged ten to 25, who is a positive role model and gives to others, can enter themselves or be nominated by someone else for the awards competition.

The winner will receive £800 but there will be many other prizes from a pot of £2,000 put up by sponsors, including Hertfordshire company Mitsubishi Electric and the University of Hertfordshire.
